About The Artist![]() Marc Reed's contemporary paintings deal with life in New Jersey. His subject matter, he claims, is traditional - but with a twist. In a recent interview Mr. Reed discussed his work: "Like classical artists, I paint a lot of landscapes and nudes. Only I was born and raised in New Jersey so my landscapes happen to be filled with smokestacks and water towers. I just paint what I know." The industrial landscapes that Mr. Reed paints seem to have fostered in him a personal insight on society. "I see a tremendous paradox in all these decaying industrial structures. They represent so many different things: our war and prosperity, our freedom and chains, and now our uncertain future. At the turn of the century I see them as the ultimate symbol of our culture." The awe-inspired forms and colors found in Mr. Reed's landscape paintings can also be found in his paintings of nudes. "My paintings of nudes have been growing in popularity. To me, the most beautiful things on earth are also the oldest things on earth: the forms and images humans have evolved with. There is a primal attraction to landscapes and nudes. Although people like the different treatments and colors I use, the essence of its beauty is very primal." Mr. Reed is a self employed freelance illustrator and fine artist who works out of his studio in Lambertville, New Jersey. Copyright 1999 All rights reserved Concorde Fine Arts |
